Basic Things You Must Know About 192.168.2.1
An IP of 192.168.2.1 is a private internet protocol (IP) network address used by routers and other devices to communicate and connect to the internet. It is also the default IP address given to routers that are manufactured by Belkin and SMC.
The Role that an IP Address Plays
There are several roles that an IP address plays. It’s basic role, however, is to serve as an identifier for devices to link and connect to the internet. It is used to send and receive data to and from the internet. Since it identifies a device in the network, no two devices may have the same IP address as it will result to an IP conflict and inability to connect to the internet.
As a default IP address of certain home networking routers, 192.168.2.1 makes it possible for you to adjust the settings of your home broadband wireless router connection. You can also increase the privacy and security of your connectivity using the default address, in the same way that you can revert to factory defaults with the same address.
While it is the default IP address designated to Belkin and SMC routers, you can change this default to any of your preferred IP address that falls within the range of 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.255.255. Similarly, any devices different from Belkin or SMC can also use the default of 192.168.2.1 as long as only one (1) device in the network uses this IP address.
How to Increase Security and Privacy
To increase the privacy and security of your broadband wireless router connection, here are the easy steps to follow:
1.Access your router’s home page by typing 192.168.2.1in the address bar of your web browser. This where you see http://.
2.Log in by providing your credentials in the box that pops up asking you for your username and password. The credentials are provided by your router’s manufacturer and typically indicated in your router’s manual. For most routers, the default is ‘admin’ which can be both used for the username and password.
3.Once logged in, you may now go to the password settings option where you can change the default password to your preferred password. You need to create a strong password, something that others will find difficult to decode. You may also want to turn on the encryption features of your router to enhance your security all the more.
You see how useful 192.168.2.1 can be as a private and typically default IP address of certain routers like those from Belkin and SMC. You can also use this same IP address to reset your router to its original settings if you have lost or forgotten your password. You can do this by pressing the reset button for about fifteen (15) seconds or more and accessing your router’s home page using 192.168.2.1.
